Job Description

The position of K-8 Formation Director at the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist upholds the mission of the Church to evangelize and bring others to Christ.  The position is focused on areas of pastoral and formational ministries including weekly religious education classes for children in grades K-8 and includes sacramental preparation (First Reconciliation and Eucharist) for children.  The position requires experience and education in the liturgy and rites of the Catholic Church, effective personal communication capabilities, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to collaborate with a ministry team.  The Director will promote an understanding of evangelization in its broadest scope by providing educational opportunities and events relating to spiritual formation and growth through belonging to Christ and living the life of the Church.

Job Responsibilities

Development, coordination, and administration of SJE Faith Formation Program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade, including sacramental preparation for the celebration of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

Coordinate formation and sacramental prep for children of families new to the Church with RCIA Director.

Provide guidance and support for Vacation Bible School.

Recruitment, formation and affirmation of volunteer catechists.   Implement and support diocesan safe environment policies including compliance with VIRTUS training and Circle of Grace programming.

Complete and file all required diocesan annual reports and maintain parish sacramental records.

Create yearly schedule with formation team including classes, retreats, parent meetings, and sacramental celebrations and collaborate with team for coordination of special events, prayer services, faith sharing groups, and presentations promoting educational and spiritual formation.

Attend diocesan workshops and parish staff meetings and comply with diocesan and parish guidelines and policies regarding faith formation and sacramental preparation. 

Maintain fiscal responsibility by respecting budget; ordering and organizing classroom materials and supplies.

Plan and coordinate First Reconciliation and First Eucharist retreats, liturgies and receptions in collaboration with Pastor and Director of Liturgy and Music. 

Terms of Employment

Full-time, exempt position requiring some evening and weekend hours and reporting directly to Parish Administrator.
