Job Description

The position of Director of Faith Formation: Youth Grades 6-12 at The Co-Cathedral of St John the Evangelist upholds the mission of the Church to evangelize and bring others to Christ.  The position is focused on areas of pastoral and formational ministries including weekly religious education classes for youth in grades 6-8, sacramental preparation (Confirmation ) for students in grades 9 and 10, and faith in action programming for 11th and 12th graders.

Job Requirements

The position requires experience and education in classroom management and curriculum planning, in the liturgy and rites of the Catholic Church, effective personal communication capabilities, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to collaborate with a ministry team.  A degree in Catholic Studies, Theology, or Pastoral Ministry is preferred.  The Director will promote understanding of evangelization in its broadest scope by providing educational opportunities and events relating to spiritual formation and growth through a personal belonging to Christ and through witnessing by living the life of the Church.

Job Responsibilities

Development, coordination, and administration of SJE Faith Formation Program for youth in grades 6-8.

Development, coordination and administration of SJE Confirmation Preparation for youth in grades 9 and 10 including retreat planning and facilitation.

Recruitment, formation and affirmation of volunteer catechists, small group leaders, and youth peer leaders and event volunteers.

Assist in planning of Confirmation liturgy, rehearsal and reception in collaboration with Pastor and Director of Liturgy and Music.

Development, coordination, and administration of SJE Faith in Action Program for youth grades 11 and 12.

 

Assist in promotion and execution of city wide and diocesan youth events including UNITE gatherings and Camp Summit Summer Camp.

Implement and support diocesan safe environment policies including compliance with VIRTUS training and Circle of Grace programming; attend diocesan training and serve as a VIRTUS facilitator.

Create and maintain student lists and workgroups in parish data system and create and update program guidelines, processes and policies in formation team shared files.

Complete and file all required diocesan annual reports and maintain parish sacramental records.

Create yearly schedule with formation team including classes, retreats, parent meetings, and sacramental celebrations and collaborate with team for coordination of special events including prayer services, faith sharing groups, and presentations promoting educational and spiritual formation.

Collaborate with formation team leadership to staff Vacation Bible School program and cultivate peer leaders and youth volunteers for support and participation.

Attend diocesan workshops, parish staff meetings, faith formation team meetings and comply with diocesan and parish guidelines and policies regarding faith formation and sacramental preparation. 

Maintain fiscal responsibility by respecting budget; ordering and organizing classroom materials and supplies.

Terms of Employment

Full-time, exempt position requiring some evening and weekend hours and reporting directly to Parish Administrator and Pastor.  Applicants will be required to pass a background check.
