GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Director of Liturgy and Pastoral Ministries is of service to the Church by sharing the faith, serving the community, and expressing the love of God and neighbor through liturgy and pastoral care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Pastoral Ministry:
Pastoral Care:

  •   Assist pastor in responding to the pastoral care needs of our parishioners and those entrusted to our care.
  •   Manage Communion to the homebound and those living in care facilities; and conduct home, hospital, hospice, and nursing home visits regularly.
  •   Facilitate Caring, Grief, and Welcome Ministries.
  •   Assist with the training and mentoring of volunteers in the pastoral care ministries.
  • Formation:
  •   Assist in the RCIA process..
  •   Lead the parish process of preparation for Baptism and engaged couples.



Liturgical Ministry:

  • Direct the parish worship program, including the planning of liturgical seasons, sacramental celebrations and the liturgical calendar in collaboration with the Pastor and Music Director.
  • Coordinates persons involved in liturgical ministries; presiders, lectors, extraordinary extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, altar servers, sacristans, hospitality ministers, etc.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to coordinate the work of the liturgy and/or environment committees.
  • Oversee the aesthetic décor and cleanliness of the worship space, the provision of sacred vessels and vestments, the maintenance of an effective sound and projection system, the purchase of missals, homily helps and other resources.
  • Educate members of the parish and serve as parish resource in matters of liturgical understanding, sensitivity and planning.
  • Assist in the planning of funerals. When necessary, lead wake or committal service.
  • Coordinate wedding rehearsals.
  • Prepare petitions for Sunday liturgies and other services as needed.


Administrative:

  • Act as the primary liaison with the Diocese of Winona-Rochester in the areas of Liturgy, Lay Ministry and RCIA
  • Oversee the maintenance needs of all liturgy equipment.
  • Prepare an annual departmental budget in collaboration with the Parish Administrator.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

  • Well-developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of the Catholic Church and Church teachings.  A person of faith and prayer. Articulate and confident in matters of faith.
  • Roman Catholic in good standing.
  • Proficiency in planning, organizing, and coordinating events and programs as well as coordinating and delegating shared ministry responsibilities.
  • Experience in directing and managing volunteers.
  • A degree in theology, liturgy, pastoral ministry, or a related field or significant experience in a similar role.


WORKING CONDITIONS
General office setting for planning and meetings.  Church facilities for rehearsals and liturgies. These responsibilities will be fulfilled in a 40-hour work week, with some regular office hours and presence on weekends and major feasts. Additional hours may be necessary from time to time, depending on the workload and liturgical season. The employee must be able to occasionally move 30+ pounds.

ACCOUNTABILITY
The Director of Liturgy and Pastoral Care is accountable to the Parish Administrator and ultimately the Pastor.

COMPENSATION
A salary will be paid in an amount agreed upon with the Pastor with review of the Finance Council of the parish.

Pax Christi Parish, a vibrant, diverse Catholic parish of 1600 families in northwest Rochester, MN, seeks a full-time Director of Liturgy and Pastoral Ministry to plan and coordinate liturgical and pastoral ministries as well as recruit, train, and schedule liturgical and pastoral ministers.  

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in theology, liturgy or pastoral ministry or equivalent experience and have excellent organizational and communication skills.
