Position Title

Faith Formation (Pre-K through 12th Grade) & Youth Ministry Director

Purpose/Scope:

  • Provides leadership of the parish’s education and formational activities on matters of Catholic doctrine that brings to life the mission of the Roman Catholic church and St. Theodore’s parish.
  • Responsible for the development, coordination, administration, and content of religious instruction of the St. Theodore Faith Formation Program for children pre-school through 12th grade. The program includes sacramental preparation for the celebration of 1st Eucharist, 1st Reconciliation and Confirmation in collaboration with St. Theodore school.
  • Responsible for coordinating all youth activities in collaboration with the Diocese of Winona-Rochester and other parishes within the Diocese.
  • Collaborates with the parish’s Faith Formation advisory council in which to regularly assess status of Catholic teachings in all programs and needs of all stakeholders, particularly parents of children in the program; and to assist in establishing measures of success.
  • Continue to review and enrich the Faith Formation program for children and adults.
  • Incorporate electronic/technological media/communication into education and formation.
  • Coordinate and oversee all recruitment and registration of students for the program; particularly reaching out to all children outside St. Theodore’s school.
  • Coordinate and oversee all recruitment, formation and teaching of Catholic doctrine to volunteer catechists, faith sharing leaders, assistants, and child-care providers.
  • Coordinate, oversee, and support staff and volunteers with record keeping including registration information, class lists, and sacramental information.
  • Facilitate communication with parents and volunteers through meetings, newsletters, conferences, and/or web-site.
  • Establish an annual calendar of dates for all gatherings including classes, retreats, parent meetings, sacramental celebrations, etc.
  • Plan 1st Eucharist, 1st Reconciliation and Confirmation liturgies in conjunction with Faith Formation volunteers and families and in collaboration with the pastor and other parish staff.
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating the teachings of the Catholic Church to adults in St. Theodore’s which include planning of curriculum with appropriate Catholic content.
  • Assist in training/educating liturgical ministers (EM’s, Lectors, etc.).
  • Responsible for maintaining the Faith Formation budget and coordinate with other staff in ordering and organizing classroom materials and supplies.
  • Attends diocesan workshops and parish staff meetings to stay current and in compliance with diocesan and parish guidelines and policies regarding Catholic teachings in Faith Formation and sacramental preparation.
  • Attends and participates in St. Theodore liturgies and para-liturgies.
  • Performs other duties as designated by the pastor.

 

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or Associates degree with a minimum of one (1) year experience facilitating faith formation or similar groups; teaching, and organizing volunteers.

 

Fluency in Spanish is helpful and preferred.

Must be an active, participating member of the Catholic Church

Skills: Ability to lead and coordinate volunteers; Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and ages; Ability to organize events;

Equipment: Effective computer technology skills including the ability to write effectively, prepare engaging and information presentations. Effective use of the projector, SMARTBoard, and speaker system.

Software: ParishSoft, Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit/stand and move across the parish campus.

Ability use a computer keyboard and other related technology.

Reporting Relationship:

Director of Religious Education (DRE) is accountable to the Pastor.

Schedule

Hrs/Wk

40 hours/week – Exempt position

Hours will vary per week up to 50 hours per week dependent up on the scheduling of events.
