Position Summary 

  • Provides leadership of the parishes in order to achieve and advance the mission of St. Augustine/St. Edward including educational and formational activities on matters of Catholic doctrine that facilitate the functioning of the mission of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Responsible for the development, coordination, administration and content of religious instruction of the St. Augustine/St. Edward Faith Formation Program for children in preschool (CGS) through 10th grade. The program includes sacramental preparation for the celebration of 1st Eucharist, 1st Reconciliation and Confirmation in collaboration with the Catholic Schools.
  • Assist with the Visioning of Formation/Education efforts within the parish
  • Continue to review and enrich the Faith Formation Program for children.
  • Coordinate and oversee all recruitment and registration of students for the program; particularly reaching out to all children outside the Catholic School system.
  • Oversee all recruitment, formation and teaching of Catholic doctrine to volunteer catechists, faith sharing leaders, assistants and child-care providers.
  • Assist support staff with record keeping including registration information, class lists and sacramental information.
  • Incorporate electronic/technological media/communication into education and formation
  • Facilitate communication with parents and volunteers.
  • Coordinate an RCIA Program
  • Coordinate/Facilitate Adult Education opportunities
  • Assist with Discipleship efforts/vision within the parish
  • Create a yearly schedule of dates for all gatherings including classes, retreats, parent meetings, sacramental celebrations, etc..
  • Plan First Eucharist, First Reconciliation and Confirmation liturgies in collaboration with the pastor.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility by respecting budget and coordinating with other staff in ordering and organizing of all classroom materials and supplies.
  • Implement Diocesan policies regarding the safe environment program
  • Attend diocesan workshops and staff meetings and stay current and in compliance with diocesan and parish guidelines and policies regarding Catholic teachings in faith formation and sacramental preparation.
  • Attend and participate in liturgies and Para liturgies in the parishes.
  • Any other duties designated by the pastor

The Director of Catechesis is accountable to the Pastor

 

Qualifications

Employment in and by the Catholic church is substantially different from secular employment.  Employees of Catholic Church organizations must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission, purpose, and teachings of the Catholic Church.  Their behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Catholic Church, the Diocese of Winona, or our parish and must not embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal.  A BA in Theology or Pastoral Ministry required; a MA preferred. Some fluency in Spanish preferred. Proficiency with computer programs/software, communications. Prior experience in a Faith Formation program preferred, with knowledge of Catholic curriculum and resources required.  Knowledge of Blessed John Paul II’s Theology of the Body.  Proven success in ability to articulate and defend the doctrines and mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Church.  Must be an active, participating member of the Catholic Church.
