Print-Based Outreach

The following options are for you and your parish’s consideration. Since this pilot year is a year for creating outreach resources, and many of the spiritually lost are our younger generations, we are focusing on social media resources—that is, reaching them where they live. The resources are meant to lure and persuade people to return rather than be encyclopedic doctrinal resource banks. The www.thelightisonsouthernmn.org website focuses on sharing witness and healing, whereas the internal diocesan page is a space for sharing resources for churches to implement the outreach. The advantage of this is that the website is very low cost and designed to be shared easily. But it only will work if people are encouraged to share it out as an act of invitation and love.

  1. Four bulletin blurbs have been sent to parish secretaries, with quotations from modern popes highlighting the mercy of the Lord in reconciliation, with encouragement to go to the website and share it online or through word of mouth. These could be placed in the bulletins the Sundays leading up to March 29-31.

  2. The items attached below are potential postcards and simple 8”x11”posters. The postcards could be sent bulk mail to people in your geographical area (upload and mail through Vistaprint), or printed locally and given to parishioners at the end of or after mass to share at home, work, and other places. The posters have space to add your parish or cluster’s confession times and could be posted in the churches, but ideally everyplace else in town that has a bulletin board.

  3. The USCCB provides free The Light is On images for our use. We are primarily using the blue image, but they are all similar: if you would like to create your own materials or use the images in the bulletin or on website, please do. If you would like to create your own visual advertisements—such as banners, table tents, lawn signs, postcards—feel free. You can find the images for use on this website: http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/sacraments-and-sacramentals/penance/light-is-on-logo-graphics-downloads.cfm. You can get many of these items made cheaply and professionally at Vistaprint. They will even do a bulk mailing for you.

  4. If any parish would like a news release about The Light is On initiative for local papers, please let me know and I will send one to you directly or send it to your local newspaper.
