What is the National Eucharistic Revival?

This stark reality inspired the Bishops of the United States to action. More than an event or a program, they envisioned a true Revival to rediscover the source and summit of our Faith through a deep commitment of prayer, pilgrimage, and worship on the part of the entire Church in the United States.

The advent of the pandemic only accelerated these plans, revealing their urgency and importance. Too many Catholics still have not returned to Mass to celebrate the central mystery of the Church.

Taking its title from the Bread of Life discourse in John’s Gospel, “My flesh for the life of the world/Mi carne para la vida del mundo,” the Eucharistic Revival is not a step-by-step plan or a series of meetings; it is a grassroots call and a challenge for every Catholic across the United States to rekindle the fire of love and devotion for the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus.

Over three years, every Catholic diocese, parish, school, apostolate, and family is invited to be a part of renewing the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

This Revival launches on the Feast of Corpus Christi, June 19, 2022. Over the next three years, dioceses will host Eucharistic Congresses and processions. Parishes will increase or begin Eucharistic Adoration. There will be a revival of faithful adherence to the liturgical norms in all their richness – the ars celebrandi. Families and friends will gather in small groups to learn and pray together. Filled with the flame of charity from the reception of Jesus in the Eucharist, missionary disciples will go to the margins, recognizing the mystery of Jesus’ presence in the poor.

All of this will culminate in the first National Eucharistic Congress in the United States in almost fifty years. From July 17-21, 2024, thousands of Catholics will journey on pilgrimage to Indianapolis to personally encounter Jesus in the Eucharist and be sent back out into their parishes and communities. ¿Qué es el Avivamiento Eucarístico Nacional?

 

Esta cruda realidad inspiró a los obispos de los Estados Unidos a la acción. Más que un evento o un programa, vislumbraron un verdadero Avivamiento para redescubrir la fuente y cumbre de nuestra Fe a través de un profundo compromiso de oración, peregrinación y adoración por parte de toda la Iglesia en los Estados Unidos.

El advenimiento de la pandemia solo aceleró estos planes, revelando su urgencia e importancia. Demasiados católicos todavía no han vuelto a Misa para celebrar el misterio central de la Iglesia.

Tomando su título del discurso del Pan de Vida en el Evangelio de Juan, “Mi carne para la vida del mundo/Mi carne para la vida del mundo”, el Avivamiento Eucarístico no es un plan paso a paso o una serie de reuniones; es un llamado de base y un desafío para todos los católicos de los Estados Unidos para reavivar el fuego del amor y la devoción por el Corazón Eucarístico de Jesús.

Durante tres años, cada diócesis católica, parroquia, escuela, apostolado y familia está invitada a ser parte de la renovación de la Iglesia encendiendo una relación viva con el Señor Jesucristo en la Sagrada Eucaristía.

Este Avivamiento se inicia en la Fiesta del Corpus Christi, el 19 de Junio de 2022. Durante los próximos tres años, las diócesis organizarán Congresos Eucarísticos y procesiones. Las parroquias aumentarán o comenzarán la Adoración Eucarística. Habrá un renacimiento de la adhesión fiel a las normas litúrgicas en toda su riqueza: el ars celebrandi. Las familias y los amigos se reunirán en pequeños grupos para aprender y orar juntos. Llenos de la llama de la caridad desde la recepción de Jesús en la Eucaristía, los discípulos misioneros irán a los márgenes, reconociendo el misterio de la presencia de Jesús en los pobres.

Todo esto culminará en el primer Congreso Eucarístico Nacional en los Estados Unidos en casi cincuenta años. Del 17 al 21 de Julio de 2024, miles de católicos viajarán en peregrinación a Indianápolis para encontrarse personalmente con Jesús en la Eucaristía y ser enviados de regreso a sus parroquias y comunidades.
